Sound, Lighting, CD Recordings at Concerts

Sound/Lighting Technician notes: Setup and cabling done by CHS
staff/students. Just have to operate equipment during performances.
From Don Hanzlik, 2002
Event CD Recordings:
Background -- Chantilly has never used these as fundraisers. They are
strictly for the purpose of providing parents with a lasting memory of
their child’s performances. Typically, we have recordings made for the
Pyramid Concert and Jazz Festival. The past two years, we have used RonArt
Recording Associates in Lorton. Ron does not charge a set-up fee, and his
prices are below others I contacted. The quality of his recordings has
been perfect – no pops or hiss. The only rub is that he may take longer
than other vendors to deliver product, and the directors wind up getting
the complaint phone calls. If Ron can resolve this problem, I feel he is
still the best for the money.
When Chantilly hosts District Festival (every three years), the Band and
Orchestra Directors’ Association contracts with a vendor to do the
recording.
1 Band Parent to take over duties of maintaining the CHS Audio Vault at
http://dcfree.net/chantillybandmusic/ .
Requirements are: Commitment to attending all CHS Band Concerts and other
notable performances. Have available stereo recording equipment
(mini-disk, digital camcorder, work just fine). Hard drive space for
installing RealProducer Basic (free download from Real Networks).
Broadband Internet connection, as files take forever to upload at dial-up
speeds. Basic web page construction knowledge (Front Page Express is more
than sufficient for this job. Familiarity with, and accessibility to, FTP
software.
