It’s time, once again, for one and
all to mark your calendar for the upcoming Chantilly
Invitational Jazz Festival.
This event will be held on Friday, March 28 and Saturday - March 29, 2008 at Chantilly High School.
Bands representing approximately two dozen schools from Virginia,
Maryland and North Carolina will compete for scholarships,
prizes and general “bragging rights” in Combo and Big Band divisions. The “Airmen of Note”
has described this event as “the premier scholastic jazz competition on the
entire East Coast.”
This event is sponsored by the Chantilly Music
Boosters, and the “Big Band Society” - Ed Walker Chapter
Congratulations to all of the bands for 30 amazing
performances! Thanks to parents and friends that helped.
One of the things that says a lot about the power of this
event, and the character of the people that help run it
,is the large number of alumni parents and friends that
return year after year!

This year’s festival will again be a two-day event High school jazz combos will be featured on Friday night with
award recognition given at the end of the evening to the outstanding high
school jazz combo and outstanding jazz combo performer.
The first 15 high school jazz bands to register for
Saturday will be guaranteed participation in the Festival. Priority will be
given to the school’s #1 jazz band on the Saturday performance schedule. The
top three finalist bands of the day will be provided dinner and then compete
for top honors in the evening program. Three scholarships (approximately $500
each) will be awarded to outstanding high school senior jazz performers who
will continue their education with either a major or minor in music. These
scholarships have been generously donated by the “Big Band Society” - Ed
Walker Chapter for 23 years! After confirmation of registration, additional
information for the Festival will be forwarded to all participants. Email Mr.
