Band Handbook

Uniform Requirements

bulletBlack Socks (musicians wearing pants)
bulletOpaque Back Hosiery (musicians wearing skirts)
bulletBlack Dress Shoes
bulletWing-collar, pleated-front, white tuxedo shirt

Small's Formal Wear (Fair Oaks Mall) and Gingiss Formal Wear (Greenbriar Shopping Center) carry the shirts and may still offer a modest discount to our students.

Concert tuxedos are fit and assigned during class time early in the school year. Those students who are in Marching Band may be fitted during practice.

Tuxedos are handed out to those students who have paid their Band Activity Fee. Tuxedos are given to the students to keep at home during the concert season. Students must have all pieces with them for each performance and are responsible for replacement of lost or damaged uniform pieces.

Questions! Contact the Uniform Mom.

Note from the Uniform Committee

The Uniform Committee works hard to make sure students look as good as they sound. Your help is needed in the following ways:

bulletMake sure your musician is dressed appropriately for each performance
bulletRemind them to care for their uniforms by hanging bibbers/jacket and tuxedo properly.
bulletVolunteer to assist the Uniform Committee at games and competitions.

Jazz Band members are assigned a burgundy pocket silk for their tuxedo.

** Tuxedo shirts can be purchased at any formal wear store.  The tux shirt has a pleated front with winged collar and no studs.

Skirt & Pant Hemming

Please DO NOT CUT the excess hem.  DO NOT USE FUSIBLE HEMMING TAPE. The adhesive residue cannot be removed and shows if the pants are lengthened. It is helpful to use a pressing cloth in order to prevent a “shine” on the garment. If you take a skirt or pants to someone for alteration -- PLEASE remind them of the above concerns.

Tuxedo Turn-In

At the end of the school year, tuxedos must be returned in good condition. Numbers in the garments must match those assigned to your student at the beginning of the year. If any part of the uniform is lost it must be replaced at the price suggested for that garment in September. Part of the band fees goes toward the cleaning of these uniform. Cleaning of Marching Band uniforms is done in January, and tuxedo cleaning is done during the summer so they are ready for the next school year.

Long Range Uniform Replacement Plan

Starting with the 1999-2001 school year, The CHS Music Boosters implemented a long-range replacement plan. One half of the UniQuip Fee goes into a new uniform account and will only be used to replace uniforms in our $90,000 inventory. This approach “spreads-out” the cost of uniforms across all band participants throughout the years.
