It is the policy of Chantilly High School that no administrator, teacher or coach can require a student to choose between two extracurricular school activities. If you are involved in two or more extracurricular school activities, the student must advise both teachers and/or coaches so that a schedule can be arranged to accommodate each activity, with no penalty to the student.

Tutoring Program

The Students of the Chantilly High School Band Department have created a program to assist in the musical development of other band students through a volunteer tutoring program. The purpose is to provide free tutoring for students starting to play an instrument, and a general appreciation of music and to give CHS band students an opportunity to teach others and benefit our community.

Indoor Drum Line

This extracurricular activity begins in December with Saturday competitions in February through April.  Auditions of pit percussion and battery are required. Drum Line will rehearse two nights a week and Saturday afternoons when there are no competitions. The Drum Line Fee will be determined yearly. Fund Raising participation is strongly encouraged.

Students involved with Indoor Drum Line will learn and perform as a Marching Percussion Unit. The show is written and designed to be performed on a Basketball court. The most important aspect of this ensemble is to have a great attitude.

Attendance

The guidelines are outlined below as a model to follow and for the benefit of all the members of the Color Guard.

  1. Three unexcused tardies equals one unexcused absence.

  2. Three excused absences result in failure to perform at next performance whether it be home football/basketball game or a competition. You will have to report at normal time, dress as if you were performing and sit with the other members of the Marching Band/Winter Guard.

  3. Two missed performances move you to alternate status

  4. Missing the Tuesday night rehearsals during the first three weeks of school during the fall and before each competition during fall or winter is not recommended, please make every effort to be there.

  5. It is expected that you participate in at least two fund-raisers during each season

Excused absences and tardies include (Notes are required)
  1. Family Emergencies

  2. Sickness

  3. Conflict with other legitimate school activities

Fall Marching Color GuardFall Marching Color Guard

The Fall Marching Color Guard is the visual ensemble of the Marching Band. Members learn equipment skills on flag, rifle, saber or a special item, and dance skills such as jazz, ballet and movement. Auditions are held in the late spring and practices are held throughout the summer. Members must attend Band Camp and must follow the same practice schedule as the Marching Band with one exception; there is an additional Tuesday night rehearsal for the first three weeks of school from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. After the first three weeks of school, members do not have to attend the afternoon rehearsal with the Marching Band but must attend the evening sectional from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Color Guard is a part of the Marching Band; therefore, all rules in regards to attendance, rehearsals, fund-raisers, reporting times, etc., apply unless changed by the Color Guard Instructor.

Winter Color Guard

Winter Guard is an extra-curricular activity that is held November through April each year. The members perform a 5-minute show on the gym floor to recorded music, using equipment, dance and movement to illustrate a theme or a concept. Auditions are held in November and rehearsals are held at least two nights a week for three hours through the end of the season. Competitions are held on Saturdays -- the exact schedule is approved in January.
